Baby On the Go Gear
5 things you never want to leave the house without

Going on trips with a baby or a small child is hard work; even something as ordinary as going to the shops requires some degree of planning and organization. Our list of essential baby gear makes getting out and about less of a chore and makes it easier to deal with your baby while on the go.
1. Diaper Changing Gear

If there is one thing that babies can be trusted to do, it is to poop at the most awkward and inconvenient times. Hence, your diaper changing gear is something that you never, ever want to be caught without. Once you have a baby, it is an inevitable fact that your diaper bag will accompany you everywhere so it is worthwhile investing in one that you will be proud to be seen with. Make sure you keep it topped up with your baby’s current size of diapers, wipes and creams. It is a good idea to keep some plastic bags handy for easy disposal of smelly nappies and throw-away changing mats are also good to have. Some top-end diaper-bags have fold-out changing pads to make this cumbersome task a bit more comfortable for your baby.
2. Snacks & Drinks

If your baby is very young and is bottle-fed, always keep some formula milk on hand. Ready-made formula in cartons is especially good but make sure you pack a bottle to serve it in. For older babies, keep a stock of their favorite snacks and a sippy-cup containing some water or juice.
3. Entertainment

A bored baby is an unhappy baby. An unhappy baby will protest and make any outing absolutely unbearable so avoid this by making sure you always bring some of your baby’s favorite things with you on trips. A vast range of travel toys are available including those that can attach to your stroller or car seat. Travel mobiles can be purchased that stick to your car windscreen using suction pads and keep your baby amused leaving you free to concentrate on your driving. If your baby has a comfort object make sure you take this along to help her feel more secure when away from her usual environment.
4. Extra Clothes

Skimping on a change of clothes is a decision you will be guaranteed to regret. Always pack a small sweater or cardigan even in warmer weather as you never know when temperatures will drop.
5. A Blanket

Even at the height of summer, a blanket is something you will always find a use for when you are out with your baby. Most babies like to be covered with a blanket while snoozing and it can also be used as a play-mat if you take your baby visiting or to the park. A blanket can also be used to shade your baby from the sun and to play peek-a-boo games with when waiting at the Doctor’s office. Its uses are as endless as your imagination!
